Question: What is the difference between a single and double action revolver
Submitted by: Guest, Sat. Oct 18, 2008
Answer:Basic question, many people are wondering this, thats for asking it
A single action revolver's trigger does one thing, it releases the hammer (single action)
A double action revolver's trigger does two things, it releases the hammer, and it also brings the hammer back (double action)
So this means you need to pull the hammer back on a single action revolver. It also usually means you will load each round one at a time through a cutout on the right side of the revolver
A doube action revolver means you can load the rounds (bullets) and just pull the trigger (no need to pull the hammer back first, but you can do this if you want)
Double actions usually open up to the left side of the gun and the whole cylinder drops out of the gun to reload.
Speed loaders are usually used with double actions since their cyilinder is exposed enough to load all rounds (bullets) at one time
